
HM Treasury, despite being one of the oldest institutions of government, does not occupy its own purpose-built offices. Since the 17th Century, the Treasury has repeatedly moved around Whitehall, London and more recently the UK. As the nation celebrates 80 years since Victory in Europe Day, this lecture explores how unexpected events have shaped the history of the Treasury’s buildings.
Mario is a Senior Civil Servant at HM Treasury, where he co-chairs the Treasury History Network. He is also a Visiting Professor at King’s College London where he co-teaches on the MA Government Studies module ‘Chancellors and the Treasury: Managing the British Economy’, a unique partnership between HM Treasury and King’s College London. Mario is also a Trustee of the Royal Mint Museum.
