Dr Can Gokcen

Dr Can Gokcen is Lecturer in Government Studies with The Strand Group, his work focuses on machinery of government and security issues.

Can Gokcen is Lecturer in Government Studies and is part of the Strand Group, in the Policy Institute at King’s. Previously, Can has worked as a Researcher on the history of UK monetary policy at HM Treasury, a Senior Research Adviser at the City of London Corporation, where his work focused on the UK’s development as a world-leading financial centre, as well as other roles covering UK public policy. Can studied for his MA in Contemporary British History at King’s College London. His PhD thesis, undertaken at KCL’s Department of War Studies, was entitled ‘A Unity of Thought, Doctrine, and Outlook? An Institutional History of the U.K. Ministry of Defence, 1947-1992’. 

Can’s research interests include ideas about strategy and politics, the historical development of Britain’s secret state, international relations and geopolitics.
