Sir Michael Barber appointed as a Visiting Professor at King’s

The Policy Institute and the Strand Group are delighted to announce the appointment of Sir Michael Barber at King’s College London.

Since September 2024 Sir Michael has been the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Effective Delivery, supporting the Prime Minister in driving forward the delivery of the five national missions. This includes coordinating ambitious, measurable, long-term objectives that deliver change across the UK.

Sir Michael has worked closely with several recent Prime Ministers and senior Ministers in different administrations, as an adviser on skills delivery to from 2022 to 2023. He has also served as Chief Adviser to the Secretary of State for Education on school standards (1997 to 2001), Head of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit (2001 to 2005) and Chair of the Office for Students (2017 to 2021).

Sir Michael will work with the Strand Group teaching team to assist students on the MA Government Studies undertaking research dissertations. Sir Michael will also give special guest classes based on his experience in government.
